About

Take a nostalgic journey with a four-mile return trip along the historic route once taken by coal trains from the collieries to the River Tyne. Step back in time as you travel in a vintage 1950s passenger carriage, as you soak up the sights and sounds of a bygone era.

Before or after your train ride, delve into North Tyneside's rich railway history, with captivating displays and stories from the past. Be sure to meet Killingworth Billy, the world’s third-oldest steam locomotive, and a true piece of railway heritage.

Don’t miss a visit to our shop, where you’ll find railway-themed books and souvenirs to take home. Whilst you're here, why not treat yourself at the Waggonway Tearoom? Enjoy a special selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks, and cakes on selected days.

Please note: Heritage train rides are operated by our dedicated volunteers and are subject to availability.

Each journey lasts approximately 35-40 minutes. Book now. Yearly Season Tickets also available when booking.
