Museum opening times: 

Non-train days: 11am-4pm

Opening days: 

The museum is open Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, plus Thursdays during school holidays. Heritage train rides are available on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays and Thursdays during the school holidays. 


Train running days: The museum will open 30 minutes before first train departure time. Please check Ticketsource for train running times. 

How to book

The museum is open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, plus Thursdays during school holidays. Heritage train rides are available on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays and Thursdays during the school holidays. Please view train running days here. We recommend booking your train ride tickets ahead of visiting to secure your timeslot and help us monitor visitor numbers. However, there will be an allocation of tickets for people who walk up on the day or for those not able to book online. 

Each booking includes a four mile return heritage train ride (please note that rides are subject to the availability of locomotive).

The cafe will be open on Sundays, serving hot and cold drinks, soup, sandwiches and home made cakes. You are welcome to bring your own food and refreshments to enjoy in our picnic area.
